Ocean Motion
Palms Middle School
Utilizing under water ocean currents to create renewable energy to power humanity's next step towards restoring earth to its former glory.
Ocean Motion’s purpose is to show the potential ocean currents have to create the next big energy source and decrease the use of fossil fuels. Ocean currents are reliable because they are continuous. The model constructed demonstrates one way ocean currents can be used to create electricity. The model is constructed of a container, turbine, LED light and other components. A hose is placed into the container to mock an ocean current. The mock current makes the turbine spin, powering the LED light. The prototype’s turbine produces up to 5V of electricity. On a larger scale, 24 times its size, in an ocean current, it could create 120 volts, which is the average volts used by a home in North America per day. This project is unique because of the natural resource it uses to create electricity. The ocean covers about 71 percent of the earth’s surface. Since the ocean is a big part of our planet, it is a perfect candidate for creating energy. The objective of Ocean Motion is to bring awareness to the large potential of ocean currents and demonstrate their effectiveness. This project would change the world due to its large-scale impact on using the ocean for energy instead of the burning of fossil fuels. Ocean generated energy is the next step to healing our planet. It’s time to stop burning fossil fuels and look towards more options for clean energy.
